What is Seared Tuna?
In the world of professional cooking, "Searing" is a technique where the surface of the food is cooked at an extremely high temperature until a caramelized crust forms.
For Yellowfin, searing is the gold standard. Because Tuna is very lean, it dries out quickly if cooked through. By searing, you achieve a "best of both worlds" result:

The Interior: A cool or slightly warm, buttery center that retains all the natural moisture and omega-3 oils.
What Exactly is a Tuna Steak?
Unlike the flaked varieties in cans, a Tuna steak is a thick-cut cross-section of the fish, usually from the loin. Yellowfin is the favorite for grilling because it is incredibly firm. When raw, it’s a deep ruby red; when seared correctly, it looks like a beautiful pink jewel framed by a thin layer of cooked meat.

Freezer: Because Yellowfin has healthy fats, it is best consumed within 3–4 months. Beyond that, the flavor can change.

Tip: Vacuum-seal the steaks to prevent freezer burn. If you don't have one, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then foil.

Yellowfin is prized for its lean protein and Omega-3 fatty acids. Beyond nutrition, its appeal lies in its versatility—it’s firm enough to hold up on a braai grid but delicate enough to be served as Sashimi.
